Not for the faint hearted, this 1000cc basic 4x4 will appeal to backpackers, budget campers and photographers alike for its off-road versatility. One of the most popular vehicles with the BBC for filming the great migration of the wildebeest, it has also won the heart of professional photographers from as far a field as Alaska!
This is one jeep that embodies the word “safari” from the onset of your trip reminding you of the horse-drawn wagons of yesteryears. Its roof hatch allows for better game viewing and photographing from the safety of the vehicle and its panoramic view from all quarters inside the vehicle make it great for game spotting. This bump-and-hop jeep has surpassed many a modern, more sophisticated 4x4, to deliver it’s clients to their destination, albeit slightly ruffled up but no worse for wear.
Its lightweight construction ensures that in the rough it will stay on top whilst others simply get bogged down in the muck! It may be one of the most basic 4x4’s but it’s simplicity also means that it has a good durability and reliability record and nowhere is it more at home than in the major game parks. |

With an updated suspension system that does away with the basic leaf spring layout, you will find in its place trailing links with coil springs in the back whilst the front inherits independent suspension with MacPherson struts.
This all adds up to one thing: COMFORT. Add to this a robust chassis, spacious interior that will seat 4 in comfort and you have a vehicle that will ply the common park trails with comfort and ease. What its lower undercarriage loses in terms of height, it more than makes up for in a combination of efficient on-road and off-road handling. Its high seat position translates to a wide driver’s view when on our roads.
The engine has good pulling power that makes overtaking slower traffic easier; the clearance will allow you to traverse potholed roads with a lot more ease than with our medium size saloons, thus making long distance journeys more tranquil. |
